50 YEARS OLD!

50TH ANNIVERSARY EXHIBITION

Our Exhibition Pre-view evening opened in great style with a large crowd of members, family and friends.
Anne welcomed us all and then handed the microphone to Mary who gave us a brief rundown of the history of our society.
Ruth Edwards was presented with a bouquet in recognition of being the longest serving member and of her work on behalf of us all. Ruth has done almost every job possible for us and only gave up as President at the last AGM.

The Exhibition was then opened by wildlife artist Kim Thompson who had previously visited us last November. She told us of her very interesting work with children in Botswana before wishing us luck and declaring the Exhibition open.

A celebration cake had been made for us by Anne's Sister - in - Law, Wendy Hammerton, which was beautiful inside as well as out. Unfortunately she wasn't able to join us but Anne and Bob will pass on our thanks and admiration for such a lovely cake.

The Exhibition itself is "one of, if not THE, best" with a wide range of subjects, styles and media.
On the Pre-view evening we voted for the "Best in Exhibition " picture which was awarded to Peter Clements for his painting of the Docks at night. So many congratulations to Peter. A second vote will be done by the visitors to the Exhibition - result on Saturday.

Thanks are due to the Hanging Committee who spend a lot of time planning the event so that everything runs smoothly at the hand-in and for the duration of the Exhibition. An innovation was the board of self-portraits of twenty members done especially for the Anniversary. Many of us had never done a portrait before so thoroughly enjoyed trying something different and, of course, it was much more difficult than we had imagined!

The Exhibition is open every day from 10am to 5pm with an extension on Thursday until 8pm and continues until 5pm on Saturday, 25th August when members collect their unsold work etc
