GAIL MORRIS'S EVENING PLAYING WITH ABSTRACTION

Gail gave us an easy introduction to creating an abstract picture at our June meeting.

After writing down what abstraction means to each of us, Gail showed us three different approaches to abstraction by Kandinsky, Rothko and Mondrian.

If I understand correctly, people who create artwork in a state of relaxation, relying on their subconscious mind produce 'Neurographic' artwork. Working mindlessly, while relaxed, is a not uncommon state for artists!

Gail showed us three different abstract paintings that she had done

We were then advised to draw three shapes of different sizes and then draw two lines through the shapes at any angle.
We could then colour-in, apply patterns and generally experiment for the rest of the evening. The results at the end were colourful and varied in style.

Many thanks to  Gail for such an enjoyable evening!
