COLOUR PENCILS TUTORIAL EVENING WITH HELEN CARTER JAN 2026

January's Bug Workshop was presented by Helen Carter a professional artist and tutor who also demonstrates for Derwent Art.

Her original reference was a photograph by Stephen Hocking.

Helen prefers to use Derwent Chromaflow pencils on hot-pressed (smooth) paper.

She explained various colour pencil techniques, including hatching, cross-hatching, circling and indenting.

Selecting the colours was an important step.

Working from Helen's template we applied the colours using her techniques.

A keen pencil artist, Ali M., was in her element.

Fiona & Tina C were very happy too!

Helen brought some brilliant examples of her own work.
