Our May sketching location had such great topics ....

...from quirky and historical buildings.....to boats and water,

Seven artists enjoyed a beautiful afternoon at Eling Quay.

The Eling Tide Mill Experience cafe was the perfect spot to relax after sketching,
with paintings by members of Totton Art Society on sale.

Many thanks to Helen for making all the arrangements.

JAMEL AKIB PAINTS 3 OIL PAINTINGS IN APRIL

THREE OIL PAINTINGS OVER THREE OLD WORKS

More than thirty TAS members and visitors had a fabulous evening watching Jamel Akib transform three former paintings on canvas into three vibrant paintings: an elephant, a humming bird and a seascape.

There were few outlines, beginning with patches of paint applied with a two large brushes - one for dark colours and one for light - which gradually evolved into the subject.

Jamel talked about the properties of each colour as he used it. Transparent colour reveal the underpainting and an opaque colour hide it. He mixed his colours on the palette or on the canvas as he painted - he often brushed crimson into very dark brown.,

We also saw him making use of tonal values, warm and cool colours and varied brush strokes. It was a masterly demonstration!

See https://www.crossbarnart.com/ to see more about Jamel's popular classes.

at Braishfield and Odiham.
