PEOPLE IN ACRYLICS WITH WENDY JELBERT IN APRIL

Professional artist Wendy Jelbert demonstrated how she uses acrylics in April.

She worked on watercolour paper from a prepared outline sketch based in a photograph and laid down transparent background washes.

Some of her trademark watercolour techniques were used, such as negative painting background around the people shapes, soft wet-into-wet gradation and masking fluid applied with pen to preserve white areas.

Her helpful techniques chart also included: underpainting with white paint and texture gel.

Wendy cleverly used larger areas of brighter primary colours blue and yellow in the market stall area.

She integrated the figures into the scene using different hues of the same colours and increasing selected contrasts in tone.

We saw how a simple scene could be developed into a more finished work using layers to achieve a richer texture.

We enjoyed following Wendy's process!

APRIL SATURDAY WORKSHOP MIXED MEDIA IN THE STYLE OF MIKE BERNARD

Gail Morris gave us another amazing Saturday workshop in April 2026 inspired by work of Devon artist Mike Bernard. **

Members were inspired to move out of their comfort zone to create pictures using collage, texture and mark-making.

**Mike's technique is to apply paper collage and texture with acrylic medium, freely apply marks in ink, creating chaos and then work in recognisable passages. ( See more on his website: https://www.mikebernardri.com/general-5 )

SKETCHING AT ELING IN APRIL

What a fabulous day for an afternoon sketching at Eling. The whole area was buzzing with lots of families on their school holidays.

14 Adventurous Artists captured the historic waterside attraction with fabulous paintings.

Later we were joined by Tony and Betty and all enjoyed refreshments in the Tide Mill Experience cafe, sharing our work and chatting.
