Our Latest Events

So far this year we have managed to meet for three events. Details of future events can be obtained by contacting Di or Helen.

ADVENTUROUS ARTISTS met in Southampton City Art Gallery for a  sketching session.

Helen reports:-

" We had a good look around the current exhibitions.  We soon found a good sketching location and settled down to produce an image.  Di and Pam chose the Perseus Series by Edward Byrne Jones.  Helen found a small portrait of a violinist by Duncan Grant.  We regrouped and had a discussion about the challenges of 'proportion'.  A well earned cuppa followed in the Sea Museum Cafe.  A lovely afternoon. "

The INGENIOUS ARTISTS had a very enjoyable ZOOM session. The subject for our meeting, which was set last month, was "Under Water."

Di reports:-

"Betty showed us 2 abstract paintings of a rockpool under water. Catherine did a view of the cranes from Goatee Beach in watercolour and another sea painting. She also experimented with alcohol inks to produce an abstract-effect in bold colours! Helen could see an angry fish eye in it! Tony had not finished his picture. I had done a river with fish in it and an underwater painting with a salmon in it."

After showing and discussing our paintings we went on to talk about various aspects of art and different media and tried to solve each others art problems with an exchange ideas!"

The topic for next month's meeting is A COLOUR SWAP PICTURE i.e. using non-realistic colours for any subject in any medium.

Our MAIN MEETING in the Three Score club was using colour pencils in a different way by drawing an outline of a subject then softening it with a little water and lifting out to get a tonal range. More details later.
