Lindsey Cole demonstrated painting in acrylic mixed media at our June 2024 meeting.
She often paints landscapes outdoors 'en plein air'. The references for this demonstration were a small sketch in a sketchbook and her photograph.
She had also pre-selected the colours and painted them on a sample sheet.
Her mantra is "GO WITH THE MARK AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS".
She does this by applying the paint and pausing to see the effect before applying more. This could be good practice for many of us!
Working on mountboard primed with coats of gesso, Lindsey used liquid acrylic paints, acrylic inks which can be mixed with liquid acrylic paint, droppers, a water spray, Woodies watercolour pencils, wax crayon, a flat silicone shaper/brush, a roller....
....a credit card, kitchen roll, a liner brush for painting tree branches with ink and a large Windsor & Newton short flat bright brush.
Using liquids and a variety of painting tools enables her to work freely and achieve different effects. She even blew ink with a straw.
Lindsey often tries several versions of the same scene using different methods and colours. Her paintings are "lots of little experiments".
Our members admired the samples of her work.
The resulting landscape was stunning, although Lindsey predicted that she would do more before she considered it finished!
