JULY MEETING USING LINDSEY COLE'S TECHNIQUES

Our Lindsey-style evening workshop using some of her techniques was popular.
Members prepared to experiment by bringing a range of different art materials to use.  The results were highly individual - as usual.

Of course in addition, discussing and sharing our work is one of the most enjoyable and rewarding activities that we do as artists.

Fluids such as liquid acrylics and inks could be used to create paint runs as shown in Gail's picture.

Silicone brushes may be used to create sharp edges or to scrape away layers of paint.

Lindsey loves to use flashes of colour in foliage as in this painting.

Challenge yourself and you will increase your creativity!

SKETCHING AT SETLEY POND IN JULY

TAS Adventurous Artists had an idyllic afternoon sketching at Setley Pond, which is between Brockenhurst and Lymington.

We had New Forest at its best with ponies, dragonflies, birds and a lovely group of model boat enthusiasts.

Tony, Betty and Olive joined the sketchers for refreshments at the amazing Rosie Lea House afterwards. Yet another memorable sketching afternoon, well-chosen by our Helen, our brilliant leader!😊

ART ARTERNOON WORKSHOP IN JULY

Seven TAS members joined Tuesday's afternoon art afternoon to paint and chat.

We often use the time to try different techniques and subjects
as well as working on a painting.

LINDSEY COLE 'S UNIQUE RESPONSE TO LANDSCAPE IN MIXED MEDIA

Lindsey Cole demonstrated painting in acrylic mixed media at our June 2024 meeting.

She often paints landscapes outdoors 'en plein air'. The references for this demonstration were a small sketch in a sketchbook and her photograph.

She had also pre-selected the colours and painted them on a sample sheet.

Her mantra is "GO WITH THE MARK AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS".

She does this by applying the paint and pausing to see the effect before applying more. This could be good practice for many of us!

Working on mountboard primed with coats of gesso, Lindsey used liquid acrylic paints, acrylic inks which can be mixed with liquid acrylic paint, droppers, a water spray, Woodies watercolour pencils, wax crayon, a flat silicone shaper/brush, a roller....

....a credit card, kitchen roll, a liner brush for painting tree branches with ink and a large Windsor & Newton short flat bright brush.

Using liquids and a variety of painting tools enables her to work freely and achieve different effects. She even blew ink with a straw.

Lindsey often tries several versions of the same scene using different methods and colours. Her paintings are "lots of little experiments".

Our members admired the samples of her work.

The resulting landscape was stunning, although Lindsey predicted that she would do more before she considered it finished!

SKETCHING AT HOCKEY'S FARM IN JUNE

 HOCKEY'S FARM IN JUNE

Hockey's Farm was unfamiliar territory for the Adventurous Artists. It is north of Ringwood off the A338 road. We took the turning signposted North Gorley.

There was a farm shop, a cafe, featuring locally sourced foods, outdoor tables and benches, plants for sale and farm animals in pens.

Everyone made the most of a warm sunny afternoon. It was quite a challenge to sketch the farm animals and birds in their pens.

We enjoyed a well-earned get-together after sketching.

NOTE: according to the website https://www.hockeys-farm.co.uk/cafe meals should be pre-booked.
